Jose Mourinho prefers summer return to management

Jose Mourinho appears to rule out taking charge of Manchester United before the end of the season, revealing that he does not want to return to work until the summer.

Jose Mourinho has conceded that he would prefer to land a managerial role in the summer, rather than taking on a team before the end of the season.

Widespread reports over the last few weeks have suggested that Mourinho has his eyes fixed firmly on Louis van Gaal's job at Manchester United.

The Dutchman is thought to be under pressure at Old Trafford, with some speculation having claimed that he will be relieved of his duties once it is mathematically confirmed that the club can no longer qualify for next year's Champions League.

However, were Mourinho to be the manager that the United board turn to, the Portuguese coach has revealed that he does not really want to take over any side mid-campaign.

"If I have to return tomorrow, I return tomorrow," he told reporters on a visit to Singapore.

"I always feel that it is better to wait and not to rush. It is better to wait for the right moment and the right move.

"I think starting next season with a new club and project is probably the best for me."

The 53-year-old has been out of work since he was sacked by Chelsea in December.
