Manchester United have still been required to pay Mason Greenwood's wages at the club despite his suspension from first-team activities, according to a report.
The 20-year-old forward was arrested and released on bail at the end of January on suspicion of rape and sexual assault of an 18-year-old woman.
United immediately suspended Greenwood following the release of disturbing videos and images across social media, meaning he would be unable to participate in training or matches during the investigation.
Now according to the Daily Mail though, the Red Devils are contractually bound to continue paying his £75,000-a-week wage despite his ongoing suspension.
The report states how Greenwood's salary can only be withheld for 14 days, meaning that he would actually be available to return to train at Carrington after that period, although it is highly unlikely that the club would allow that due to the potential reputational implications.
Although he is set to continue receiving his salary, Greenwood was dropped from his Nike sponsorship deal following the allegations, and did not receive any compensation due to a clause put into the deal by the sportswear firm. body check tags ::
