Roberto Mancini maintains that Manchester United still hold the advantage in the title race despite his team retaking top spot at the Etihad Stadium.

Roberto Mancini has said that Manchester City's 1-0 win over title rivals Manchester United has not changed anything.

Vincent Kompany headed the only goal of the match as the Citizens took the ascendancy in the race to be crowned Premier League champions.

Mancini said that there can be no doubt that his team deserved to win but has still maintained that the Red Devils hold the advantage.

"We are happy, but I think that next Sunday [against Newcastle United] we will have a very difficult game," the Italian told Sky Sports News. "I think that we deserved to win this game, we scored, we had other chances to score a second goal. I don't think they had a chance to score.

"I don't think that it is important what we can say, it is important that we play well and have a good game against Newcastle. This does not change anything for us, but I think United still have an advantage."

The 47-year-old was also involved in a touchline fracas with rival manager Sir Alex Ferguson as tensions threatened to boil over.

However, Mancini has brushed the incident under the carpet and said that there is "no problem" between him and the Scot.

"I told the fourth official that it was a foul for us, not against. Sir Alex told me something, but I could not understand because the tension of the moment. For me it's no problem."

Manchester City's last game of the season pits them against Queens Park Rangers at the Etihad Stadium.
