Roberto Mancini says that the Manchester City's 3-2 loss to Manchester United in the FA Cup showed him that his team could win the Premier League title.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has revealed the moment when he believed that the Citizens could win the Premier League title.

The Italian has said that the FA Cup third-round loss to their rivals convinced him that he had Sir Alex Ferguson's card marked.

That day, City found themselves 3-0 and a man down before half time but managed to score two goals after the break to push United close.

"That FA Cup game was really important," said Mancini. "Not when we beat them 6-1 at Old Trafford - that game was easy. But when we lost 3-2, when we were down to 10 players after 10 minutes.

"We recovered the game and had a chance to score a third goal. United didn't have a shot in the second half, even with 11 players. I think that game was really important in changing our mentality against them."

City lead United on goal difference with just two games remaining.
