Marcus Rashford 'could lose spot in Manchester United XI'

Marcus Rashford's disappointing form in the opening two months of the 2023-24 campaign could reportedly lead to the attacker being removed from the starting XI at the club.

The 25-year-old was in outstanding form for the Red Devils last season, scoring 30 goals and registering 11 assists in 56 appearances in all competitions.

Rashford has found it difficult to make his mark this term, only managing one goal in nine appearances, although he has provided three assists.

The England international was comfortably Man United's best player last season, but his performances have been under the microscope this term, and it is alleged that his starting role is no longer secure.

According to The Mirror, at least one member of the club's coaching staff has 'expressed concerns' over the forward's body language, while it is believed that the forward's 'decision-making' is also an area that he is being heavily discussed by staff members.

Rashford provided the assist for Rasmus Hojlund to find the back of the net against Galatasaray on Wednesday evening, with the goal sending the home side into the lead.

However, Rashford passed up an excellent chance of his own in the second period, instead looking to pass to Bruno Fernandes when he had broken into the box, and his cross was cut out.

Antony has returned from a leave of absence, with the forward featuring off the bench in the 3-2 loss to Galatasaray, while Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri are also options in wide areas.

Rashford's spot is no longer said to be secure, although it would still be a surprise to see him dropped from the XI for Saturday's Premier League clash with Brentford.

Ten Hag said ahead of the clash with Galatasaray that he is still fully behind the misfiring attacker.

"The facts are he's not scoring at this moment, but he's had opportunities, like against Brighton [& Hove Albion], where he had five or six occasions in a very good spot," Ten Hag told reporters.

"If he works hard and invests every day, with the right focus and if the team around him supplies and helps him and supports him with movement, then it will come and Marcus Rashford is a player who's capable of scoring a goal in every game. When he's coming in the right spots, he will score."

Rashford has scored 124 goals and registered 71 assists in 368 appearances for Man United in all competitions.

There had been speculation surrounding his future last summer and again at stages of last season, but he signed a new long-term deal at Old Trafford in July, with his contract running until June 2028. body check tags ::
