Mason Greenwood has reportedly told close friends that he does not expect to play for Manchester United again despite now being able to resume his professional career.

The England international has not turned out for the Red Devils since the start of last year, with the forward facing serious criminal charges following allegations from a woman.

The 21-year-old was initially arrested in January 2022 on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, with a trial date set for November 2023.

However, all criminal charges against him have been dropped, allowing the forward to resume his professional career, with Man United currently conducting an internal investigation.

Man United's plans for the forward are unclear, with all options on the table, including releasing him, loaning him out for next season, selling him, and bringing him back into the first team.

A number of Turkish teams are said to be keen on Greenwood, while a recent report claimed that AC Milan were showing an interest in the Englishman ahead of the summer transfer window.

Man United are expected to conclude their investigation over the summer, but according to The Sun, Greenwood is not expecting to continue his career with the English giants.

The attacker has allegedly told close friends that he is 'finished at the club' and does not believe that he will ever 'pull on the Man United shirt again'.

Greenwood's contract, which could yet be terminated, is due to run until the summer of 2025.

The forward is believed to be open to resuming his career abroad, but it is understood that his priority has always been to remain with the Red Devils.

Before his arrest, Greenwood was viewed as one of the best young talents in world football, and he has represented Man United on 129 occasions, scoring 35 goals and contributing 12 assists.

Man United's final decision when it comes to the youngster will take into account the views of sponsors and fan groups, while it is believed that the club's women's team are firmly against him returning to the fold.

Greenwood could allegedly face a TV interview as part of his return to football, although it is unclear whether he will be given the chance to rebuild his career in Manchester. body check tags ::
