Former Manchester United defender Gordon McQueen has claimed that Angel di Maria has been too inconsistent this season.
The Argentine international winger enjoyed an explosive start to his Old Trafford career, scoring three goals in his first five games.
However, the 26-year-old has struggled to maintain his form in recent weeks, leading McQueen to question whether he has justified the club paying a British record £59.7m for him.
"Just like any other United fan, I was looking forward to watching Di Maria do what others can't do. That is what comes with the price tag," the Scot told Goal.com.
"When you pay that kind of money, you need to dominate games, but he has dipped in and out too many for my liking recently. I'm confident he will come good because he was highly rated at Real Madrid and I know that Cristiano Ronaldo loved him as a player."
Di Maria has scored three goals in nine appearances for United so far this season.
