Jose Mourinho has praised his Manchester United players for coming from behind to draw 2-2 with Burnley but is adamant that the Red Devils should have won.

United found themselves two goals down after 36 minutes at Old Trafford on Boxing Day courtesy of goals from Ashley Barnes and Steven Defour.

However, the hosts rallied round as Jesse Lingard first halved the deficit and then grabbed an injury-time equaliser to ensure a share of the spoils.

"We should have won, yes," Mourinho told BBC Sport after the game. "I take satisfaction by the way the team played, by the way the team reacted, to try to recover from 2-0 down.

"The boys, they fought against the 2-0 at half time, so nothing at all negative to say about my players. I praise their spirit, their reaction, the way they accept all the risks we took in the second half."

United now sit 12 points behind Premier League leaders Manchester City, who have a game in hand.
