Manchester United manager David Moyes has claimed that he will assess striker Wayne Rooney's fitness before deciding whether he will play a part in the club's Premier League opener.
The 27-year-old failed to feature during United's pre-season schedule due to hamstring and shoulder problems, but he started for England in their friendly 3-2 victory over Scotland at Wembley last night.
"I think I need to see how he is when we get back," Moyes told Sky Sports News. "When I get back I will try and assess him.
"I watched the game on Wednesday, I thought for the 65 minutes he played he did well, ran around and got himself some fitness, but it was his first real outing in a competitive game."
Moyes's first league fixture in charge of the Red Devils is against Swansea City on Saturday.
