Manchester United have made their worst-ever start to a Premier League campaign, having picked up just eight points from their opening seven matches of the 2024-25 season.

The Red Devils drew 0-0 with Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday afternoon, with the result leaving them down in 14th spot in the table, boasting a record of two wins, two draws and three defeats from their first seven games.

Eight points from seven matches represents their worst-ever start to a Premier League season, while it is their worst beginning to a league campaign since 1989-90, when they had seven points from seven fixtures.

Man United have only scored five times, meanwhile, which is the joint-second worst record in the division, with only basement side Southampton (four) managing fewer this term.

Erik ten Hag's future as head coach continues to be called into question, but the Dutchman has insisted that he has not been informed of a potential change in the dug-out.

Man United have won just two league matches this season

Ex-Man United forward Dimitar Berbatov was heavily critical of his former side for their performance against Villa, with the 20-time English champions struggling in the final third of the field.

"Everybody on the pitch should be ashamed because [Jonny] Evans is man of the match at 36," Berbatov told Sky Sports News. "The criticism will continue to grow, because United need to win to get the points. They are 14th in the table which is unbelievable.

"The only thing to correct it is to get the points but with the way they're playing at the moment that's going to be hard to do."

Evans, meanwhile, admitted after the clash that the constant speculation surrounding the future of Ten Hag is having an impact on the players at the club.

Evans says Ten Hag speculation is 'affecting the players'

"It does affect the players," he told BBC Sport after putting in a man-of-the-match performance against Villa. "It's on our minds too. I think the more experience I've got in my career I've made sure I do everything I can to be ready and give everything I can to the team.

"That was the important thing to show the spirit in the team. Everyone competed as much as they could. That's a pleasing thing to see. You never have everyone available throughout the season. It's important everyone coming in is ready to go when they're ready."

Ten Hag is set to meet with Man United chiefs in the coming days to discuss his future, and it remains to be seen whether a change occurs during the October international break.

The Red Devils will be aiming to record just their third Premier League victory of the campaign when they welcome Brentford to Old Trafford on October 19.
