Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rules out resigning as Manchester United boss

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rules out stepping down from his position following his side's 5-0 defeat at home to bitter rivals Liverpool.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has ruled out the possibility of stepping down as Manchester United manager following his side's 5-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool this afternoon.

The Red Devils were condemned to their heaviest ever home defeat at the hands of Liverpool, and their first home defeat to nil by five or more goals since 1955, on a miserable night for them at Old Trafford.

Solskjaer saw his side trailing 4-0 at half time - the club's biggest ever half-time deficit in the Premier League - before Mohamed Salah added a fifth early in a second half which also saw Paul Pogba sent off.

The result is likely to pile more pressure on the shoulders of Solskjaer, who saw questions raised over his position following his side's 4-2 defeat to Leicester City in their previous Premier League game, but the Norwegian has ruled out resigning from his role.

When asked whether the result has caused any doubt in his mind about his suitability for the job, Solskjaer told Sky Sports News: "No. I've come too far, we've come too far as group. We're too close to give up now."

The likes of Antonio Conte and Zinedine Zidane are among the names to have been linked with the Manchester United job in recent weeks.
