Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists that his players did not purposefully set out to antagonise their Manchester United counterparts following their derby win.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has apologised for any offence his side caused by their celebrations following Sunday's 2-1 derby win over Manchester United.

United boss Jose Mourinho was reportedly enraged by what he perceived to be over-exuberant City celebrations, leading to a dressing-room melee which left City coach Mikel Arteta with a facial wound.

Guardiola insists that his side were right to celebrate the win over their closest challengers and local rivals, but stressed that they did not purposefully try to antagonise their opponents.

"We have to enjoy those moments. If the people cannot understand that then I'm sorry. We won a derby," he told reporters.

"If we were not correct than I apologise to all of Manchester United. Our intentions was not that. It was to celebrate inside the locker room."

City and United have been granted an extended deadline to submit their version of events over what transpired in the Old Trafford tunnel.
