Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney believes that it is "only a matter of time" before a mid-season break is introduced to English football.
The Premier League champions are preparing for their second game in three days, with a trip to Norwich City on Saturday after the 3-2 win over Hull City on Boxing Day.
The clash against the Canaries will be United's third of four games in the space of 12 days during the hectic festive schedule and Rooney is sure that a mid-season break will be introduced, which could benefit the international side.
"Two days after a game we are normally in a pool and in the gym, recovering from the last game," the England international told MUTV.
"Obviously it's a bit different at this time of year. I still think that in England there should be a winter break, I think that would benefit everyone but we have to get on with it, we're professionals and we're looking forward to it.
"In terms of recharging your batteries and getting the team ready it would help. I also think it would benefit the international set-up too. Hopefully that will come in. I think it's only a matter of time."
Rooney is likely to be in David Moyes's squad for the trip to Carrow Road.
