Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has described the moment that Sir Alex Ferguson announced his retirement to the squad as "emotional."
The Dutchman scored 26 goals last season, as United won their 20th league title.
He only joined the club from Arsenal last summer and reveals that Ferguson had a long talk with his players.
"Sir Alex came through the dressing room door and the first thing he said was that he was retiring," Van Persie told The Sun.
"I had to grasp for breath and shook my head. The room fell deathly silent and then everyone became emotional.
"Sir Alex then had a long talk with all the squad. I found it a very special speech and felt privileged to have witnessed it."
Van Persie recently said that he was targeting even more silverware with United next season.
