Paul Scholes: 'Lack of quality at Manchester United'

Paul Scholes slams Manchester United's 0-0 draw with Newcastle United, saying that they should be winning games like that if they want to win the Premier League title.

Paul Scholes has slammed Manchester United's 0-0 draw with Newcastle United and insisted that they must beat such opposition if they want to win the league.

The home side dominated in possession and chances throughout the game but it was the Magpies that almost stole all three points towards the end, as Papiss Cisse's cross almost found substitute Florian Thauvin.

The former Red Devils player remains unconvinced with United's performances so far this season and insists that there is a lack of quality and excitement when they play.

"There's a real lack of excitement - a lack of quality, more than anything," he told BT Sport.

"It's okay having pace on the pitch, which we don't tend to have, but a real sense of quality [is lacking] and a bit of urgency. Newcastle at home, you should be beating them. If you're going to win the league, you need to be winning these types of games.

"I just don't think they did enough. You have to give Tim Krul special credit for a great save from [Javier Hernandez but], really, did they have a lot to defend against? I don't think so."

United remain unbeaten so far this season but have only scored twice in three games.
