Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani will allegedly complete a full takeover of Manchester United by the middle of October in a deal that could reach £6bn.

The takeover process at the club has already lasted nine months, with the current owners, the Glazer family, signalling last November that they were open to a sale.

Sheikh Jassim has recently emerged as the favourite to purchase the Red Devils, with the Qatari banker moving above British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe in the pecking order.

There were recent suggestions that Sheikh Jassim was becoming increasingly concerned that the Glazers could ultimately decide against selling the club, as there is still believed to be a split in the family when it comes to the best course of action.

However, according to The Sun, the Qatari is in the latter stages of his takeover process, and he is set to purchase 100% of the 20-time English champions by the middle of October.

The report claims that an announcement could potentially arrive as early as next month, with Sheikh Jassim preparing to commit significant funds to improve Old Trafford and the Carrington training complex, in addition to making substantial transfer funds available.

The Qatari's team are currently said to be 'completing their due diligence', with the takeover now process now set to come to a close.

Man United have been able to make three signings during this summer's transfer window, with Mason Mount, Andre Onana and Rasmus Hojlund arriving to boost the squad.

The club are still being linked with Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat, but it is understood that there will have to be at least one major exit before any further additions are made.

Fiorentina are said to be given a deadline of Friday for the Morocco international to leave the club, as the Serie A giants are not prepared to leave it late to sign a potential replacement.

On the field, it has been an underwhelming start to the season for Man United, who edged past Wolverhampton Wanderers in their opener at home before losing 2-0 at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag's side will be bidding to bounce back from the two-goal defeat in North London when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams and Eric Bailly are among the players currently being linked with moves away from Old Trafford.

Scott McTominay has also been linked with a departure, although it seems unlikely that the Scotland international will leave if Van de Beek is shown the exit, with Fred already transferring away this summer. body check tags ::
