Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has suffered another injury setback after breaking his metatarsal.
Smalling had been training at United's Carrington HQ, recovering from the thigh injury that ruled him out of Euro 2012, and was hopeful of being fit for the new season.
However, this newest setback is expected to rule the 22-year-old for up to 10 weeks.
The England international could now miss United's first six Premier League fixtures, including games against Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.
Smalling joined the Red Devils from Fulham in 2010 and has since made 63 appearances for the club, as well as winning three caps for his country.
