David Sullivan hits out at decision to delay West Ham United, Man United kickoff

West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan suggests that Manchester United should have arrived at Upton Park earlier than normal ahead of the Premier League game on Tuesday.

West Ham United co-chairman David Sullivan has suggested that Manchester United should have arrived for their Premier League fixture with the Hammers almost four hours before kickoff.

The East London outfit are staging their final game at Upton Park and have plans to mark the occasion after full time, but kickoff was delayed by 45 minutes after the Manchester United team coach suffered damage outside of the ground, with Wayne Rooney saying that the vehicle had been "smashed up".

Sullivan appeared to comment on the situation before viewing a number of images that surfaced on social media, but he insisted that United should have amended their schedule to cope with potential disruption en route to the ground.

Sullivan told BBC Radio 5 live: "It is depressing really, it will be a late night for our fans and some of them won't be able to stay. I don't understand why United couldn't get here at 4pm. They could have got here early. They knew it would be busy. It's crazy.

"There was congestion in the street and they couldn't get the coach in. There were people around the coach, but there was no attack on the coach.

"If you check the coach there won't be any damage to it. If we arrived late at Old Trafford they wouldn't put the kickoff back."

West Ham will move to within one point of United should they emerge victorious at Upton Park, while the North-West giants will go a point clear of fourth-placed Manchester City with three points on Tuesday night.
