Ruben Amorim has called himself "the right guy in the right moment", with the Portuguese addressing the media for the first time since being officially appointed as Manchester United's new head coach.

The 39-year-old is preparing to lead the Red Devils into Sunday's Premier League clash with Ipswich Town, with the trip to Portman Road set to be his first taste of managing the 20-time English champions.

Amorim called himself "a dreamer" during his press conference on Friday, but the Portuguese is under no illusions as to the size of the task facing him at Old Trafford.

"If you want to speak about the way we play, we lose the ball too often, so we need to keep the ball better. We need to be better running back and I think that's clear for everybody [smiles]. We have to be clear in the small details," Amorim told reporters before commenting on the size of the club.

"It's bigger. There's a lot of departments which is different to Sporting. It is a global club with so much to do, not just coaching the team. I have a lot of help and I am very happy and very comfortable. I feel at home.

"I am a dreamer and I believe in myself. I believe in the club and we have the same idea and same mindset. I think we have room to improve and I want to try new things.

Amorim will take his Man United team to Ipswich on Sunday

"We have space to grow as a team and we need to improve in a lot of areas. We are changing in the middle of the season with a different way of playing. We need to improve the physical aspect of the team. I don't know how long it will take but I know we need to win games at Manchester United. I will not tell you we need a lot of time but we need to improve a lot to win titles.

"Call me naive. But I truly believe I am the right guy in the right moment. I could be wrong but the world still will turn, the sun will rise again, I don't worry about that. I truly believe I'm the right guy for this job.

"Every coach that comes here needs time but we acknowledge we have to win games. You have different types of coaches and the same result. But we will try to do it our way and Ineos' way. I don't believe [this is the impossible job]."

Amorim believes he can be fairly judged after two years

Amorim was also asked how long it would be fair to give him in the Man United job before making a proper judgement.

"I have two and a half years of contract and you guys talk about that!" said the new head coach. "I think two years, you can understand if I'm the right manager to go in this process. I think we will need more time because if you look to the other clubs that are winning this league, they are doing this process for a long time but they are winning, that is why they have time to do this project.

"I understand that we will need more than two and a half years, we will have to win something somewhere, but in two years you can understand if you want to continue in this path or you change. We will see how long it will be.

"I don't know about repair but, like I said, we have space to grow as a team., I think we have to improve in a lot of areas, the understanding of the game, I know it's a different way of playing and we are changing in the middle of the season.

"We have to improve the physical aspect of the team - it's something we want to improve. And that's it. I don't know how long it will take, I know when you are in Manchester United you have to win games.

"So I will not tell you that I need a lot of time. It's a great league, it's the strongest league in the world and we have to improve a lot to try to win it. So what I can say is we have to win games to win time and then to win titles."

Amorim has taken over a Man United side that are currently down in 13th spot in the Premier League table, although the Red Devils are only four points off fourth-placed Chelsea ahead of this weekend's action. body check tags ::
