David Moyes has revealed that Wayne Rooney has been allowed two days off from club duties.
The striker is unavailable for Saturday's match against Newcastle United after picking up his fifth booking of the season in the defeat to Everton.
With that in mind, Moyes says that he decided it would be best to give Rooney some time away.
"This has given us an opportunity so he has been given Friday and Saturday off," Moyes is quoted as saying in the Daily Star.
"Obviously we would rather him not be suspended. But he is and we have to try and make the most of it.
"We need to keep Wayne fresh and ready to play because he has been in great form all season."
Rooney has scored eight league goals so far this season.
