Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Raimond van der Gouw has claimed that Victor Valdes would be the "perfect" replacement for David de Gea should the young Spaniard leave Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old is out of contract next summer and has yet to sign a new deal with the Red Devils, with speculation abound that he is on his way to Real Madrid.
Van der Gouw told BBC Sport: "With what [Valdes] knows about football and the way he is playing, he is perfect for United.
"He can play for another three or four years in a top team. [Edwin] Van der Sar played and did a great job."
Valdes made his United debut in the 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Sunday having arrived at Old Trafford on a free transfer at the beginning of the year.
