Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has hit out at "poor journalism" that suggested that the England international has rejected Adnan Januzaj's possible selection for the national team.
Januzaj, who has hit the headlines following his recent performances for Manchester United, was born in Belgium, but could be eligible to play for England in 2018 under FIFA residency rules.
In a press conference on Tuesday, the Gunners midfielder seemed to reject the suggestion that the United teenager should play for England, but Wilshere has insisted that he was not talking primarily about the youngster.
"Just to clarify a few things....again! Seems to be a trend in this country, poor journalism in my eyes! I wasn't referring to Janujaz," he tweeted.
"The question was should foreign players be allowed to play for England, and in my opinion I don't think they should! He is a great player...
"I wish he was English! I'm sure most of you agree with me even if some journalist are trying to make me look bad....again!"
Januzaj could also represent Albania, Croatia and Turkey.
