In what was the fifth round of Premier League matches this weekend, Chelsea saw their 100% winning record brought to an end by one of their former players.

It seemed that Andre Schurrle's goal was going to be enough for Jose Mourinho's league leaders to claim all three points, but Frank Lampard popped up in the closing stages to secure a 1-1 draw for Manchester City.

Elsewhere, there was a dramatic 5-3 victory for Leicester City over Manchester United, while Arsenal returned to winning ways courtesy of a 3-0 triumph at Aston Villa.

There were also first wins of the season for Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion away at Everton and Tottenham Hotspur respectively, but there was no such luck on the road for Liverpool, who were defeated 3-1 by West Ham United.

Meanwhile, Southampton continued their positive start to the campaign by winning 1-0 at Swansea City, with draws being played out at Turf Moor, St James' Park and Loftus Road.

Julian Speroni (Crystal Palace)
The Argentine may have let in two goals at Goodison Park, but a string of saves ensured that Palace returned to London with three impressive points.

Cesar Azpilicueta (Chelsea)
Speaking about the Spaniard, Jamie Carragher said that "he loved defending". He showed just that against City as he put in numerous challenges to halt attacks.
Vincent Kompany (Manchester City)
Up against the free-scoring Diego Costa, the City skipper won the battle with the Chelsea centre-forward through brute power.
Joleon Lescott (West Bromwich Albion)
Despite the fact that this was his first appearance of the campaign, Lescott showed no signs of rustiness as he helped West Brom to keep a clean sheet and record their first victory of the season.
Ritchie de Laet (Leicester City)
Having been booked early on against his former club Man United, the Belgian could have been forgiven for retreating into his shell. He didn't, though, and went on to defend well, as well as setting up Leicester's fourth goal.

James Milner (Manchester City)
The England international may not be the most exciting footballer to have ever graced the Premier League, but he is the type of player that his teammates will appreciate. He put in a tireless performance and went on to set up City's equalising goal.
Nico Kranjcar (Queens Park Rangers)
Back at QPR for a second stint at Loftus Road, Kranjcar was extremely positive against Stoke. He had a couple of good attempts at goal before he curled in a late equaliser.
Mesut Ozil (Arsenal)
In a more natural central attacking position, Ozil thrived. He showed good composure to open the scoring, before laying another goal on a plate for Danny Welbeck.
Stewart Downing (West Ham United)
Downing's career seemed to have stuttered, but he has been revitalised at the tip of a midfield diamond this season. He won the battle with Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard and also set up his side's third goal.

Jamie Vardy (Leicester City)
Restored to the starting lineup to cause Man United problems, Vardy certainly did that. He scored one goal, set up another for Leonardo Ulloa and also won two penalties for his side.
Papiss Cisse (Newcastle United)
Cisse may only have been a second-half substitute, but such was the impact that he made, without him Newcastle would have lost at home to Hull. When he entered the field his side were trailing 2-0, but his two goals earned the hosts a draw.

Numpty of the week

Wilfried Bony: Swansea City's Ivorian striker has struggled for form this season and it seemed that his frustrations boiled over at the Liberty Stadium. He was booked for a needless charge at Southampton defender Maya Yoshida on the halfway line and was then handed a second caution for chopping down the same player from behind. All this before the half-time whistle had been blown! Without their frontman, Swansea went on to lose the encounter.

Goal of the week

Angel di Maria – Leicester City vs. (Manchester United): The Argentine may have ended up on the losing side, but he certainly scored the pick of the eight goals at the King Power Stadium. Wayne Rooney's pass was slightly behind his run, but with the ball underneath his body, Di Maria managed to not only dig it out, but also lift his effort over a helpless Kasper Schmeichel.
