Leciester City stage a memorable comeback to defeat 10-man Manchester United 5-3 at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City have produced a memorable performance to come from two goals behind to beat Manchester United 5-3 at the King Power Stadium this afternoon.

The home side were quickest out of the starting blocks in what was a very entertaining contest, with Esteban Cambiasso lofting a free kick 35 yards into the Red Devils box which Wes Morgan failed to connect with.

Two minutes later, Jonny Evans had to be alert to thwart Leonardo Ulloa, deflecting a header destined for the net out for a corner.

Louis van Gaal's side burst into life in the 11th minute, when Angel di Maria played a deft pass to Robin van Persie, sending the Dutchman clear through on goal, but Kasper Schmeichel was able to save.

United did not have to wait long to break the deadlock, however, as Radamel Falcao shook off Ritchie de Laet before sending a cross the way of Van Persie, who made no mistake with a header from close range.

Just three minutes later, the Red Devils doubled their lead in spectacular fashion, as record signing Di Maria sent a perfectly-weighted chip over the stationary Schmeichel.

Leicester showed some of the character that was to come by striking back immediately, with Jamie Vardy racing down the other end and crossing for Ulloa, whose pinpoint header left David de Gea helpless.

United nearly reestablished their two-goal lead when Daley Blind lashed a volley towards goal from 30 yards out, but Schmeichel was able to scamper across his line to hold.

Falcao came close to extending United's cushion five minutes after the restart when he looked to lob Schmeichel with a half-volley, with his effort coming back off the woodwork.

The visitors soon added a third, however, and it was Ander Herrera who found the back of the net, diverting the ball past Schmeichel following Di Maria's initial effort from the edge of the box.

David Nugent soon pulled a goal back for the Foxes, though, converting from the spot after Rafael was adjudged to have felled Vardy inside the box, moments after the the Brazilian appeared to have been fouled.

Leciester almost completed the comeback when Andy King fired narrowly wide of goal, but United failed to learn their lesson with as Cambiasso ran onto a loose ball to fire into the bottom corner from 15 yards.

Vardy kept his composure when played through on goal to slot the ball past De Gea and send his side into the lead for the first time.

There was more drama to come as Tyler Blackett was shown a straight red for his last-man challenge on Vardy, and Ulloa converted Leicester's second spot kick of the afternoon to put the game beyond the visitors.

The shock victory sends Nigel Pearson's charges up to sixth in the Premier League table, while the Red Devils are now down in 12th place.
