Chelsea loanee Marko Marin is among the scorers as Sevilla defeat a half-strength Manchester United team 3-1 in Rio Ferdinand's testimonial match at Old Trafford.

A weakened Manchester United side have been beaten 3-1 by Sevilla in Rio Ferdinand's testimonial match at Old Trafford this evening.

Red Devils boss David Moyes rested many of his key players, including Nemanja Vidic and Robin van Persie, ahead of their Community Shield fixture against Wigan Athletic at Wembley on Sunday.

As expected, though, Ferdinand was a starter in central defence alongside Chris Smalling, but could not prevent the hosts falling two-nil behind inside 30 minutes.

Spanish forward Vitolo opened the scoring, slotting the ball under David de Gea after collecting a pass from Carlos Bacca, who was also involved in Sevilla's second.

The Colombian played a return pass to Chelsea loanee Marko Marin, who evaded a couple of United challenges as he ran into the box and thumped the ball home from close range.

Moyes shuffled the pack in the second half, but it was two of his starters, Adnan Januzaj and Antonio Valencia, who combined to reduce the deficit.

Impressive young midfielder Januzaj dribbled into the box before squaring for Valencia to convert on 65 minutes, giving United hope of a trademark comeback.

Jesse Lingard and Wilfried Zaha both had chances to equalise, but it was Sevilla who found the scoresheet again, with Kevin Gameiro providing Bryan Rabello with a simple finish in added time.
