Jarrod Bowen scored a stoppage-time penalty as West Ham United recorded a 2-1 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Casemiro had cancelled out an opener from Crysencio Summerville to leave the two teams level in the 81st minute, but Bowen's controversial penalty in the second minute of stoppage time secured a vital win for Julen Lopetegui's side.
Alejandro Garnacho smashed the ball against the crossbar in the second minute of the contest, with West Ham given an early warning, before the Argentina international fired wide from a promising position moments later.
Bruno Fernandes then headed a cross from Christian Eriksen over from close range after Rasmus Hojlund had been denied from close range, with Man United having four excellent chances inside the opening 13 minutes.
Marcus Rashford was next, breaking through on goal, but he just could not get the ball under his spell, before West Ham's first opportunity saw Lucas Paqueta head a corner over the crossbar.
Diogo Dalot should have sent Man United ahead in the 32nd minute when he lifted the ball over West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski and advanced into a shooting position following a brilliant pass from Fernandes, but he quite incredibly fired over the crossbar in a genuine miss-of-the-season contender.
Man United had another corner deflected onto the crossbar late in the first period, before Fabianski brilliantly kept out a header from Casemiro, with the two teams somehow level at the half-time break.
West Ham were much improved at the start of the second 45 minutes, with Michail Antonio and Tomas Soucek both having attempts, and Man United simply could not carry their dominance into the second half of action in London.
The Hammers made the breakthrough in the 74th minute of the contest, with Summerville turning in at the far post after Danny Ings had attempted to score himself with an effort from a Bowen cross.
However, Man United hit back in the 81st minute, with Casemiro heading into the back of the net from close range after Joshua Zirkzee had nodded towards his teammate in a dangerous position.
West Ham were given a penalty in stoppage time following a VAR check, with Ings challenged by Matthijs de Ligt, and Bowen stepped up to make it 2-1 to the Hammers, with that goal proving to be the winner, but there will be questions asked about the award of the spot kick.
