Reds to miss out on Robertson replacement to Premier League rival?
Liverpool's pursuit of left-back Julio Soler appears to have ended in failure, with Bournemouth reportedly in advanced talks with Argentine club Lanus for his signature this winter.
The Reds have the opportunity to move eight points ahead of second-placed Arsenal when they host Manchester United at Anfield on Sunday.
Little has gone wrong for Arne Slot this season given the Dutch manager has lost just once in his 27 games in charge, though veteran left-back Andy Robertson has at times struggled this term, giving away two penalties and being sent off in the first half of the campaign.
The Merseysiders have managed to get by despite his errors, but considering the 30-year-old looks to be declining, searching for a long-term replacement before he becomes too much of a liability would perhaps be sensible.

Out-of-contract star made an offer? Reds finally propose new deal for key player
Liverpool have reportedly tabled an enormous £78m contract to Trent Alexander-Arnold in an attempt to stop the defender joining Real Madrid for free in the summer.
The Merseysiders look like clear favourites to win the Premier League title given Arsenal dropped points yet again when they drew 1-1 with Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday evening.
Arne Slot has so far only lost one of his 27 games in charge of the Reds, and has guided the club to first place in both the English top flight and the Champions League.
However, Real Madrid have made official approaches for the signature of Alexander-Arnold, who is out of contract at the end of the season and is now free to speak to teams abroad about a potential move.

Decision made: Man City defender 'agrees' Bundesliga move after nightmare loan
Manchester City defender Issa Kabore is reportedly on the verge of joining a Bundesliga club on loan for the rest of the season.
The 23-year-old is yet to make a single senior appearance for Pep Guardiola's side since joining the club in 2020 and has instead spent time on loan at five different clubs.
Kabore experienced temporary spells with French trio Mechelen, Troyes and Marseille before making 24 Premier League appearances on loan at Luton Town last season.
Following the Hatters' relegation from the English top flight, Kabore joined Portuguese giants Benfica on a season-long loan deal last summer and had hopes of establishing himself as a first-team regular.

Emery's revenge: Ex-Arsenal boss could scupper Gunners plan with 'sensational swap'
Arsenal have reportedly suffered a setback in their attempts to sign Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, who could instead be part of a sensational swap deal with an Aston Villa striker.
The Gunners have long been tipped to move for a new attacker, and even more so now following the news that Bukayo Saka will be missing for two months with a hamstring injury.
Mikel Arteta has held off on bringing in a new number nine over the past couple of windows thanks to the presence of Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz, the former of whom has hit a rich vein of form again.
Jesus made it six goals in four appearances with his equaliser in the Gunners' 3-1 success over Brentford on New Year's Day, which Havertz missed due to illness, leaving Arsenal with a threadbare set of attacking options on the bench.

January transfer window: Latest news and rumours including Reis to Brighton
Brighton & Hove Albion have reportedly made a £23m offer for Palmeiras defender Vitor Reis, with the Seagulls looking to beat a number of major clubs to the teenager's signature.
The 18-year-old has been linked with the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Barcelona and Real Madrid, and he is regarded as one of the best young talents in South American football.
According to the Daily Mail, Brighton have submitted a bid in the region of £23m for the teenager, as the Seagulls look to complete what would be one of the most spectacular deals in their history.
The report claims that the bid is likely to fall short of Palmeiras' value, but the two teams are not too far apart, with the Brazilian outfit believed to be looking for a fee in the region of £25m.

Is he the One? Liverpool 'compile dossier' on possible Nunez replacement
Liverpool are reportedly running the rule over teenage Sheffield United striker Ryan One amid continued uncertainty over the future of Darwin Nunez.
Uruguay international Nunez has never truly found his feet at Liverpool, who committed to potentially making him their most expensive signing of all time when they struck an £85m agreement with Benfica in 2022.
Just two-and-a-half years later, Nunez is out of favour under Arne Slot, who has often preferred natural left-winger Luis Diaz up front, and the former has been heavily linked with a move to AC Milan.
Such reports are thought to be wide of the mark, but Nunez does not appear to have an immediate future with Slot at the helm, and the Anfield succession plan is apparently already taking shape.

The best in Europe? Three stats to get Spurs fans excited about Kinsky signing
Tottenham Hotspur's first signing of the January transfer window should soon be signed, sealed and delivered, as the Lilywhites are on the brink of completing the £12.5m capture of Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The 21-year-old is expected to put pen to paper on a long-term contract until the summer of 2030 and will reinforce a Tottenham side currently working without number one Guglielmo Vicario due to an ankle injury.
In the Italian's absence, Fraser Forster has experienced a mixed time of things in between the posts, starting out well but recently being lambasted for a handful of high-profile mistakes.
Forster was absent for Saturday's clash with Newcastle United due to illness, meaning that Ange Postecoglou handed a long-awaited first Tottenham start to Brandon Austin, who performed well despite coming out on the wrong end of a 2-1 loss.

Arsenal targeting Bayern star as Saka replacement
Arsenal have reportedly added Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman to a list of potential replacements for the injured Bukayo Saka.
The Gunners are seemingly considering whether to strengthen their attacking options after being dealt a significant blow by Saka's hamstring injury.
The England international is set for a significant spell on the sidelines after undergoing surgery on a hamstring problem in December.
As a result, Mikel Arteta has been left with Gabriel Martinelli, Leandro Trossard and Raheem Sterling as his wide options, although the latter is also on the sidelines at the moment.

Man City, Spurs handed boost in centre-back search
The agent of Lens' defender Abdukodir Khusanov has claimed that his client is 'ready to play for the best clubs in Europe' amid interest from the likes of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Khusanov is currently in his second season with Lens after joining the French club from Belarusian side Energetik-BGU for £83,000 in the summer of 2023.
After being restricted to just 15 competitive appearances last season, Khusanov has gone on to establish himself as a regular fixture in the first-team side this season.
The young defender has started 11 of his 13 Ligue 1 appearances this term, playing a key role in a Lens side that currently shares the best defensive record with Paris Saint-Germain after conceding 14 goals in 15 matches.

Conte ready to hand out-of-favour Chelsea man Napoli escape route?
Napoli have reportedly emerged as a potential contender to sign Chelsea attacker Carney Chukwuemeka.
The 21-year-old has had to settle for 32 competitive appearances since joining Chelsea from Aston Villa in the summer of 2022.
Chukwuemeka has been restricted to just five appearances in the current campaign, featuring in three Conference League games and one EFL Cup match.
Having struggled to gain regular game time, Chukwuemeka is likely to seek a move away during the current transfer window.

Ronaldo addresses Al-Nassr future with contract due to expire this summer
Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that he is planning to extend his stay at Al-Nassr beyond the end of the current season.
The Portugal captain has scored 74 goals and registered 18 assists in 83 appearances for Al-Nassr since arriving on a free transfer, but his contract with the Saudi Pro League side is due to expire at the end of June.
The 39-year-old has again been in strong form this season, scoring 16 goals and registering three assists in 19 appearances, including 10 goals and two assists in 12 outings in the Saudi Pro League.
Al-Nassr are down in fourth spot in the Saudi Pro League table, though, 11 points behind the leaders Al-Ittihad, so the legendary forward's search for a league title in Saudi Arabia is set to continue.

What's the latest on the future of Man United, Arsenal-linked Cunha?
Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly looking to sign Matheus Cunha to a new contract amid suggestions that both Manchester United and Arsenal want to sign him during the January transfer window.
Cunha has been in excellent form for Wolves during the 2024-25 campaign, scoring 10 goals and registering four assists in 19 Premier League appearances, including three goals in his last four outings in England's top flight.
There is currently a host of speculation surrounding his future, with both Man United and Arsenal said to be determined to sign the 25-year-old, who has 26 goals and 13 assists in 76 matches for his current side in total since his arrival at Molineux.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Wolves are working on a fresh contract for Cunha, which would end the speculation surrounding his future, at least during the January transfer window.

Fulham reject Pereira bid! Latest transfer news and rumours today
Fulham have reportedly turned down an offer from Palmeiras for midfielder Andreas Pereira.
It was reported in December that the Brazilian club were interested in signing the former Manchester United midfielder.
According to BBC Sport, Palmeiras have formalised their interest with a transfer bid worth up to £16.5m.
However, Fulham have subsequently turned down the offer, as they look to retain a player who has been a regular feature in Marco Silva's side this season.

Czech mate: Tottenham on brink of first January signing as £12.5m deal 'imminent'
Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly on the verge of completing their first signing of the January transfer window, having agreed a deal for Slavia Prague goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky.
The Lilywhites have been working without number one Guglielmo Vicario for the past few weeks after the Italian shot-stopper fractured his ankle in the 4-0 win over Manchester City at the end of November.
It will be another couple of months before Vicario is considered for selection again, and ever since he entered the treatment room, the experienced Fraser Forster has been deputising in between the sticks.
Forster initially impressed in Vicario's absence, but he has since come in for heightened criticism after a number of high-profile mistakes and is now in the last six months of his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Juventus, Napoli to battle for Chelsea 21-year-old?
Chelsea defender Renato Veiga is allegedly the subject of interest from two of Serie A's biggest clubs.
During the summer transfer window, Veiga was a surprise addition from Swiss side Basel with new head coach Enzo Maresca earmarking the prospect as a versatile option for his squad.
The 21-year-old has since gone on to make 11 starts and six substitute outings in all competitions, all but one of the starts coming in the EFL Cup or Conference League.
However, Veiga has not been used since the December 19 fixture against Shamrock Rovers and was recently left out of the squad for the Boxing Day clash with Fulham along with Noni Madueke when both players were fit.

Can Chelsea recall Chalobah, Gilchrist after Fofana injury blow?
Chelsea are reportedly already aware how they will handle decisions over two of their loan players during the January transfer window.
On Friday afternoon, head coach Enzo Maresca made the revelation that Wesley Fofana could potentially miss the rest of the season with a hamstring injury.
With that issue being far more serious than initially anticipated, Chelsea likely face being without their star centre-back for a hectic second half of the campaign.
Earlier in the day, Chelsea announced that they had recalled Aaron Anselmino from his loan stint at Boca Juniors, albeit not with the intention of immediately introducing him to the first-team setup.
