Real Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Everton midfielder Jarrad Branthwaite.

The 22-year-old was selected for England's November internationals and could have featured in the 3-0 success over Greece in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday night.

However, after training individually at the Three Lions' base earlier this week, Branthwaite did not travel to Athens with the rest of his compatriots.

The centre-back has now returned to club side Everton as he continues to recover from a knock sustained during the goalless draw with West Ham United last weekend.

Branthwaite has only started two league contests for Sean Dyche's men so far in 2024-25, with the Toffees sitting 16th in the Premier League table after 11 games.

Real Madrid 'pushing really hard' for Everton star Branthwaite

According to Football Insider, Branthwaite could be in line for one of the biggest-possible transfers as his senior career continues to impress potential suitors.

The report claims that Spanish and European champions Real Madrid are pushing really hard for the services of the 22-year-old in the near future.

It is understood that Carlo Ancelotti's son, David, is a massive fan of the defender, who has attracted interest from Premier League clubs recently.

With his current terms on Merseyside expiring at the conclusion of the 2026-27 term, Everton are in a good position to drive a hard bargain for their most expensive asset.

The Toffees supposedly placed a £100m price-tag on Branthwaite over the summer, a figure that was high enough to ward off the advances of Manchester United, who are said to be still keen on a deal for the centre-back.

Branthwaite needs to take the next step

At 22 years of age, Branthwaite is showing the potential to be a stalwart in the England defence for many years to come under Thomas Tuchel.

Unlike the midfield and forward ranks of the Three Lions, many of the team's star names at the back are nearing the latter stages their international careers, including Kyle Walker and John Stones.

A move to Real Madrid for Branthwaite would propel him up the centre-back pecking order with England, while regular La Liga and Champions League exposure would surely fast-track his development. body check tags ::
