Arsenal 'considering moving for Abraham next summer'

Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a move for Roma forward Tammy Abraham during next summer's transfer window.

The 25-year-old starred for his Italian club during the 2021-22 campaign, scoring 27 goals and registering six assists in 53 appearances in all competitions.

However, the striker has found it difficult to show his best form during the current season, only managing four goals and two assists in 20 outings.

Abraham's lack of goals saw him overlooked for a spot in the England squad for the World Cup, and there has recently been speculation surrounding his future at club level.

A recent report claimed that Roma would be willing to let the forward leave during the January transfer window providing that they received a suitable offer.

Manchester United have been credited with an interest in Abraham, with the Red Devils expected to be in the market for a new centre-forward next summer, as Cristiano Ronaldo prepares to leave the club.

However, according to ll Messaggero, Arsenal are also in the hunt for his signature, with the Gunners considering making a move at the end of the 2022-23 campaign.

Chelsea are said to have a buy-back clause of €80m (£66.7m) for Abraham, with the club able to activate it next summer, although there is currently no indication that the Blues are planning to re-sign him.

In total, the Englishman has made 73 appearances for Roma since his arrival from Stamford Bridge, scoring 31 goals and contributing seven assists in the process.

"For me my focus is to do exactly what I did last year here," Abraham recently told journalist Ojora Babatunde when asked about his future. "I'm happy here, the team is good, the manager is good. The city, the fans, I'm happy. Only God knows the future."

The striker scored 30 times and registered 12 assists in 82 appearances for Chelsea before leaving the capital giants in search of regular starts.

Arsenal brought in Gabriel Jesus over the summer to lead their line, and the Brazilian has provided five goals and seven assists in 20 appearances for the club this season.

The Gunners are still short of options at centre-forward, though, and it is believed that the club's owners are prepared to back head coach Mikel Arteta with transfer funds both in January and at the end of the season. body check tags ::
