Arsenal-linked Cunha expecting offers before transfer deadline?

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly braced themselves for offers for Arsenal-linked forward Matheus Cunha before the transfer deadeline.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta could do with a new centre-forward, having seen his current options hit by a serious injury to Gabriel Jesus.

The Brazilian is set to miss the remainder of the season with an anterior cruciate ligament injury, leaving Kai Havertz as his only senior option to play as a central striker.

Arsenal are among the clubs that have been linked with a potential move for Cunha before the transfer window shuts on February 3.

Wolves boss recently insisted that Cunha is "very committed" to Wolves despite the uncertainty surrounding his future with the club.

However, it has since been reported that Cunha is keen on a move to the Emirates Stadium, favouring an Arsenal transfer over the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Football Insider, Wolves are now bracing themselves for 'one or more' offers for Cunha's services before the transfer window slams shut.

The report does not state who could make a bid for Cunha, but it claims that Arsenal, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest all have a 'strong interest' ahead of Monday's deadline.

Wolves have supposedly held talks with the forward over extending his contract which is set to run until the summer of 2028.

Despite those discussions, there is a belief that talks over a potential exit could take place in the summer if a winter departure fails to transpire.

How likely is a winter departure?

Cunha is arguably the most important player in Wolves' squad, demonstrated by the fact that he has scored 10 goals and provided four assists in 22 Premier League appearances this season.

As a result, Wolves will be reluctant to part ways with one of their most prized assets, especially in the middle of a relegation fight.

The Midlands club are currently languishing in 18th place in the Premier League table, with just one point separating them from safety.

With Wolves fighting to preserve their top-flight status, it seems unlikely that they will allow Cunha to leave the club at this late stage of the window.

Wolves will be aware that it would be extremely difficult to find an adequate replacement for Cunha before in the closing stages of the winter market. body check tags ::
