Manchester United's sporting director Dan Ashworth is reportedly pushing for the Red Devils to sign Southampton youngster Tyler Dibling next year.

There is currently a host of speculation surrounding the 18-year-old due to his performances for Southampton in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign.

Dibling has already featured seven times for the Saints this season, scoring once and providing two assists, including a goal in the Premier League against Ipswich Town last time out.

The attacker made a strong impression in Southampton's league game against Man United on September 14, meanwhile, winning a penalty for the Saints in their 3-0 defeat.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be tracking the youngster, but there is also thought to be strong interest from Man United, with the club now targeting young players since Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival as a minority shareholder.

Man United 'interested' in Southampton teenager Dibling

According to GIVEMESPORT, Man United's new sporting director Ashworth is pushing for a deal, having wanted to bring the teenager to Newcastle United during his time at St James' Park.

The report claims that the 20-time English champions are planning to add a young winger to their squad in 2025 and view Dibling as the ideal signing due to his age and potential.

Dibling made five appearances for Southampton last season, including one outing in the Championship, but his true breakthrough into the first team has come in the early stages of the 2024-25 campaign.

The Saints are facing a huge task when it comes to keeping hold of the youngster, but head coach Russell Martin recently insisted that the club are in "a strong position" when it comes to his future.

Southampton boss addresses Dibling transfer talk

"When you are 18 and you play in the Premier League to the level he is played at, I think every club in the world probably looks at you. He is ours," Martin told The Daily Echo after Dibling found the back of the net in the league game against Ipswich Town.

"The club has turned down bids for him since I have been here, so he is not a secret to people who have been watching Under-21s football.

"He left the club and did not enjoy it where he went so he came back. I think he understands we all just want the best for him and he has a great support network around him that we are in constant contact with.

"We have to make sure he keeps enjoying it and we play in a style that he can really flourish and thrive in. The (transfer) speculation is nothing for him or for me. We are in a strong position."

Dibling, who primarily operates as a right-sided winger, has been capped at Under-16s, Under-17s, Under-18s and Under-19s level by England. body check tags ::
