Real Madrid would still be interested in signing Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea regardless of Keylor Navas's good form, according to Spanish journalist Guillem Balague.
De Gea was close to joining the La Liga giants in the summer, but the relevant paperwork was not filed before the deadline.
In a dramatic U-turn, the shot-stopper ended up signing a new long-term contract at Old Trafford, but Balague does not believe that Madrid have ended their interest.
"Real Madrid don't make decisions in terms of big signings based on sporting reasons, it is mainly down to business plans," Balague said in a Twitter Q&A with Sky Sports.
"De Gea fits the business plan of having a superstar in goal instead of Keylor Navas who is very good. So I wouldn't be surprised if they go back for De Gea."
Navas has conceded just three goals so far this season.
