Bayern Munich sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic has insisted that there is "no truth" to claims that Leroy Sane could join Manchester United before the end of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old's future at Allianz Arena has been called into question in the current market, and a recent report claimed that Man United were keen to explore the possibility of bringing him to Old Trafford.

However, when asked about the rumours, Bayern's sporting director said that Sane was "an important player" for the club and would not be moving to the 20-time English champions.

"There's no truth to that. He's an important player for us", Salihamidzic tells Sky90. "There's nothing to say about that at all."

Sane has made a strong start to the 2022-23 campaign for his German club, scoring once and proving one assist in two appearances.

The Germany international has represented Bayern on 91 occasions since making the move from Manchester City in July 2020, contributing 25 goals and 28 assists in the process.

Sane impressed during his time in Manchester, contributing 37 goals and 46 assists in 134 outings, which included 25 goals and 32 assists in 90 Premier League appearances.

The attacker is not guaranteed a starting spot at Bayern, though, and he had to accept a substitute role in Friday's 6-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.

Sadio Mane, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala started as the front three in the team's opening league game of the season, with Sane coming on for the final 25 minutes.

Man United's desire to sign a new attacker this summer has also allegedly led to them making a move for former Stoke City and West Ham United forward Marko Arnautovic, who currently represents Bologna.

Anthony Martial's hamstring problem ruled him out of Sunday's Premier League clash with Brighton & Hove Albion, which saw Christian Eriksen play as a false nine for Erik ten Hag's side.

Cristiano Ronaldo was eventually introduced early in the second half of the contest, but it was a disappointing start to the season for the 20-time English champions, who suffered a 2-1 defeat.

Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho have been in strong form for the Red Devils during pre-season, but the pair also found it difficult to make their mark against Graham Potter's side.

There is now pressure on Ten Hag to pick up a result in Man United's second match of the new Premier League campaign against Brentford on August 13.

The Red Devils will then welcome bitter rivals Liverpool to Old Trafford on August 22 before ending the month with a trip to St Mary's to take on Southampton. body check tags ::
