Bayern Munich are reportedly interested in the loan signing of Manchester United's Scott McTominay, with the Bavarians prepared to offer Ryan Gravenberch as part of a swap deal.

The 26-year-old Scotsman is currently out of favour at Old Trafford, playing just seven minutes of Premier League football in his side's opening three matches of the season.

Since graduating from the club's academy in December 2016, McTominay has featured on 211 occasions for the Red Devils, scoring 19 goals during a challenging period for United.

The midfielder is an integral part of his national side, having made 41 appearances for Scotland since making his debut in March 2018, scoring five goals in four European Championship qualifiers this calendar year.

According to BILD, Bayern Munich are considering a move for McTominay in the closing stages of this summer's transfer window, as they look to solve a particular issue in their squad.

For a number of weeks, Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel has openly expressed his desire to recruit another defensive-minded midfielder, with the former Chelsea head coach viewing McTominay as someone who fits that description.

The Bavarian giants lined up with an engine-room duo of Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka for their 3-1 victory over Augsburg on Sunday afternoon, however Tuchel perceives that pair as box-to-box midfield options.

The report claims that Bayern would be looking to recruit McTominay on a loan deal, with the agreement potentially having the option to buy the player at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.

A similar stipulation was placed into Joao Cancelo's deal last season as the Portuguese made the temporary switch from Manchester City for the second half of the campaign, however the Bundesliga champions decided against making the full-back's move permanent.

It is understood that Bayern could offer Gravenberch to Man United in exchange for McTominay, with the Netherlands international said to be unhappy with his game time at the Allianz Arena.

The 21-year-old was an unused substitute during his side's matches against RB Leipzig and Werder Bremen at the start of the new season, however he did appear off the bench for nine minutes in the home success on Sunday.

A switch to Old Trafford for Gravenberch would see him reunite with Erik ten Hag, who nurtured the talent of the midfielder while at Eredivisie giants Ajax.

Despite a reported willingness to offload Gravenberch on a season-long loan, Bayern are said to remain confident in the abilities of the Dutchman who joined the club last summer.

With Mason Mount currently sidelined and McTominay earmarked for a move away, Christian Eriksen is expected to partner Casemiro in the Man United midfield when they travel to the Emirates Stadium to face Arsenal on Sunday in the Premier League. body check tags ::
