Bayern Munich will reportedly only make a bid for RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano if they part ways with David Alaba.
Real Madrid are said to be close to finalising a deal for the Austria international, who has just five months remaining on his deal at the Allianz Arena.
Club officials have already identified Upamecano as a potential replacement, aware that the Frenchman has a release clause in his contract.
However, according to Sky Deutschland, the European champions only intend to make an approach for Upamecano if Alaba opts for a new challenge.
Future chief executive Oliver Kahn has previously acknowledged that Bayern have held discussions with the 22-year-old's representatives.
Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have also been linked with the centre-back in recent months.
