Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich does not believe that the club will meet Tottenham Hotspur's asking price for Harry Kane when the window reopens.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Mark Bosnich has expressed his doubt that the club will stump up enough money to prise Harry Kane away from Tottenham Hotspur when the transfer window reopens.

United are understood to view Kane as one of their dream transfer targets and were handed hope that he could be open to an exit by recent comments suggesting that he would not stay at his boyhood club "for the sake of it".

Spurs have reportedly slapped an asking price of at least £200m on the England skipper and are unwilling to sell to a domestic rival, but Bosnich believes that Daniel Levy would accept a bid from the Red Devils should they meet the hefty price tag.

However, the Australian does not believe that United will offer the world-record sum, despite claiming that Kane's arrival would turn them into title contenders.

"Tottenham have paid for their own stadium – a massive amount. And with the Covid-19 situation all the chips are in the air for everyone," Bosnich told Sky Sports News.

"If they were offered that money, I'm quite certain that regardless of what Daniel Levy has said, he would snap Manchester United's hand off. But I don't think Manchester United will go that far in terms of offering that kind of money, especially in the present situation.

"I think it would. There's no doubt that Harry Kane is one of the greatest strikers in the world of his generation. We've seen that consistently, in the Champions League and playing for England. I really don't think at this stage, with the doubt that's surrounding the whole competition that they would go that far. They might do it at a reduced price, there's no doubt about that."

Kane, whose Spurs contract does not expire until 2024, has scored 181 goals in 278 games for the club.
