Brentford are reportedly prepared to submit a bid for Real Betis youngster Assane Diao.
The Bees are likely to strengthen their squad in the January window after experiencing a difficult first half of the Premier League season.
Having picked up 19 points from as many games, Brentford are currently sitting in 16th place and just four points above the drop zone.
Thomas Frank has had to contend with a number of injuries to key players this term, including forward Bryan Mbeumo, who is set to miss three months of action with an ankle problem.
With Mbeumo sidelined for a considerable period and Yoane Wissa set to head off to the Africa Cup of Nations, Brentford are believed to be scouring the market for attacking reinforcements.
According to Diario de Sevilla, via Sport Witness, the Bees are preparing to submit a formal offer for Diao after identifying the Betis winger as a potential target.
The report claims that Brentford are willing to make an offer close to the €30m (£26m) release clause in the 18-year-old's contract.
Brentford are seemingly leading the race to secure Diao's signature despite recent speculation suggesting that the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were showing an interest.
The Spanish club are said to be considering whether to entertain Brentford's proposal due to their delicate financial situation.
After rising through Betis' academy ranks, Diao broke into the first team earlier this season, making his debut in September's Europa League clash with Rangers.
He then made an immediate impact in his La Liga bow, scoring his first senior goal in a 1-1 draw against Granada.
The academy product has gone on to score a total of four goals in 18 competitive appearances for Manuel Pellegrini's side.
Having impressed with his club side, Diao has also been given the chance to represent the Spain Under-21 side on four occasions.
While uncertainty surrounds his future, Diao is likely to be involved when Betis return to La Liga action with an away fixture against Celta Vigo on Wednesday.
