Brentford midfielder Christian Eriksen has decided to leave the club upon the expiration of his contract this summer, according to a report.

After suffering a cardiac arrest at last summer's European Championships with Denmark, the 30-year-old was forced to leave Inter Milan due to Italian health protocols surrounding his fitted defibrillator.

Premier League side Brentford came calling for the midfielder in January, and after agreeing to a short-term deal until the end of the 2021-22 campaign, Eriksen put in a series of impressive performances to help Thomas Frank's side comfortably avoid relegation.

The Bees remain eager to extend Eriksen's stay in West London this summer, despite him appearing on their official released list on Saturday, but the Dane has held off from making a decision for the time being amidst interest from former club Tottenham Hotspur, as well as Manchester United according to reports.

However, one decision that Eriksen has now made is that his future lies away from the Brentford Community Stadium, according to Alfredo Pedulla.

Via his website, the Italian journalist claims that the former Spurs and Ajax man seeks a new challenge away from Brentford this summer, with his expiring contract allowing him to walk away from the club on a free transfer.

After he made 11 Premier League appearances last season, during which he scored one goal and registered four assists, Eriksen took his tally of appearances in the English top flight to 237 following his six-and-a-half-year stay with Spurs in North London. body check tags ::
