The next Manchester United manager could reportedly determine whether Cristiano Ronaldo decides to stay or leave Old Trafford next summer.

After the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, Ralf Rangnick was appointed as interim boss until the end of the season, with the German to then take an advisory role at the club for a further two years.

Rangnick's brief spell at the helm is yet to hit the heights that United fans would have hoped for, with some first-team players having doubts as to whether he is the right man for the job.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo's return to Old Trafford is understood to have 'caused tension' at the club, with Rangnick having to deal with dressing-room cliques.

According to the Daily Star, Ronaldo is not in favour of Rangnick receiving the permanent United job next summer as the German has failed to impress the five-time Ballon d'Or winner since his arrival.

Should United appoint a permanent successor to Rangnick that is not to Ronaldo's liking, then the Portugal international may seek a transfer elsewhere next summer.

Paris Saint-Germain manager Mauricio Pochettino, Ajax head coach Erik ten Hag and Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers have all previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford. body check tags ::
