David de Gea is reportedly prepared to take a substantial pay cut in order to sign a new long-term contract at Manchester United.
The Spaniard's current deal is due to expire in June 2024, with the Red Devils recently activating a 12-month extension to take him until the end of next season.
De Gea has not hidden his desire to pen a new contract at Old Trafford, though, and according to The Sun, the experienced goalkeeper wants a minimum three-year deal.
The report claims that the stopper wants 'security' when it comes to his future, and he is therefore prepared to slash his wages of £375,000 a week in order to gain a new deal.
De Gea would allegedly have to drop his wages by more than 25%, with the Red Devils not prepared to hand the former Atletico Madrid youngster another huge contract.
"I'm very relaxed. I just focus on training, perform as best as I can. But, for sure, it's going to end in a good way," De Gea recently told Sky Sports News when asked about his future.
"I hope (to stay for the rest of my career). I was saying this is my club, I've been here many, many years and it's a huge honour to be here and I'm so happy here."
De Gea arrived at Man United from Atletico in July 2011, and he has made 513 appearances for the club, including 26 in all competitions during the 2022-23 campaign.
The Spaniard has kept 12 clean sheets during an impressive season to date, and he has reportedly been assured by Red Devils boss Erik ten Hag that the club are not looking to sign a new number one.
Back in October, De Gea said that he was "really, really happy" at Old Trafford and wanted to remain at the club "for more years".
"I'm just very focused on the games helping the team as much as I can. Of course, I would like to be here for more years, so let's see what happens in the future. I'm really, really happy here," he said.
The stopper has won the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup during his time with the Red Devils, who are competing on four fronts during the 2022-23 campaign.
This season, De Gea has made 19 appearances in the Premier League, conceding 22 goals and keeping eight clean sheets, and he will be bidding to help Man United overcome Arsenal in the league on Sunday afternoon. body check tags ::
