Eintracht Frankfurt could walk away from a move for Donny van de Beek due to the Manchester United midfielder's wages, according to a report.

Eintracht Frankfurt are reportedly considering walking away from a move for Donny van de Beek due to the Manchester United midfielder's substantial wage packet.

The Netherlands international is set to leave Old Trafford during the January transfer window in search of regular action, as he is not in the plans of Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag.

Frankfurt have been heavily linked with the midfielder, and there have been claims that discussions over a loan move for the former Ajax youngster have advanced over the last week.

However, according to German journalist Christian Falk, the Bundesliga outfit could be forced to walk away from a deal due to Van de Beek's wages.

Falk claims that the Dutchman earns in the region of £6m a year, which Frankfurt cannot afford, so a compromise will have to be reached in order for him to move to the German team.

Van de Beek has featured just twice for the 20-time English champions this season, with his only Premier League appearance coming off the bench against Crystal Palace on September 30.

The midfielder has recently been involved in the first-team squad in the Premier League due to the club's substantial injury problems, but he has not been introduced.

Van de Beek is again likely to be in the squad for Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool, but he will not feature at Anfield unless there are more midfield injuries ahead of the match.

The Dutchman scored 41 goals and registered 34 assists in 175 appearances for Ajax ahead of his move to Man United, but he has found it difficult to make his mark at Old Trafford.

Van de Beek has only contributed two goals and two assists in 62 appearances for the Red Devils, and his contract only has another 18 months left to run.

The midfielder missed the second half of the 2022-23 campaign due to a knee injury, but he was back for the start of pre-season and featured for the Red Devils over the summer.

Casemiro could also leave Old Trafford next year, while there have been suggestions that the club are willing to listen to offers for Christian Eriksen.

Sofyan Amrabat is only on loan from Fiorentina, and the Red Devils are allegedly yet to decide whether to sign the Morocco international on a permanent basis.

Kobbie Mainoo could come into the midfield against Liverpool on Sunday alongside Amrabat and Scott McTominay, as captain Bruno Fernandes will miss the game through suspension. body check tags ::
