Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies is reportedly a 'dream target' for Manchester United, with the Red Devils determined to secure his signature next summer.
Davies, 24, only has a contract with Bayern until June 2025, and there is currently a host of speculation surrounding his future, with some of the world's biggest clubs said to be keen to sign him.
Real Madrid have long been regarded as the favourites for the Canada international, and that is believed to still be the case, but Barcelona are also thought to be in the argument for his signature.
Man United, though, continue to be linked with the left-back, and according to German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Davies is a 'dream target' for the 20-time English champions next summer.
As it stands, foreign clubs would be able to agree a pre-contract with Davies in January, but Bayern are still battling to convince the Canadian to extend his stay in Munich.
Man United 'determined to win the race' for Davies
Davies has again been a key player for Bayern this season, making 15 appearances in all competitions, contributing three assists in the process.
Since arriving at Allianz Arena in January 2019, the left-back has featured on 210 occasions for the Munich giants, scoring 11 goals and registering 34 assists in the process.
Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi have recently both moved on free transfers, but Davies would be one of the best free signings of all time if he does indeed leave Bayern at the end of his contract.
Man United are still said to be behind Real Madrid in the race for his signature, but it has been reported that the Red Devils are prepared to pay the defender a higher salary than the reigning European champions.
Why do Man United want Davies?
It is widely expected that new Man United head coach Ruben Amorim will implement a 3-4-3 system at the club, having had so much success with that set-up at Sporting Lisbon.
Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are both back to fitness, but there remain question marks over the duo due to their recent injury problems, and it is understood that Man United will sign a new left-back next summer.
Davies seems the perfect fit for the left-sided wing-back role due to his electric pace and threat going forward, while he would have protection from the left-sided centre-back behind him.
Lisandro Martinez is the favourite to fill that one, but it is not impossible to imagine Shaw becoming a regular in a back three if the Englishman can overcome his injury problems.
Davies's agent Nedal Huoseh recently denied that his client had already come to an agreement with Real Madrid, claiming that the defender "has many options".
