Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag has revealed that Jonny Evans and Joe Hugill will be staying with the Red Devils for the remainder of their pre-season tour.

Evans and Hugill flew out to the United States for the friendly with Wrexham on Tuesday evening, and the former played 74 minutes of the clash, while the latter featured for 68 minutes.

The duo were expected to return to Carrington following the clash, which Wrexham won 3-1, but it has now been revealed that both players will remain with the Red Devils for the final game of their tour against Borussia Dortmund on Sunday night.

"We need the numbers in the coming days in training," Ten Hag told reporters after the 2-0 loss to Real Madrid on Wednesday night when asked about the pair.

"As you see, Fred is not here and also [Anthony] Elanga went back. We need the numbers for proper training to hit our targets and that's the reason they are here."

Evans began training with Man United earlier this month after the expiration of his contract at Leicester City, and he featured in the friendly with Lyon before the first team headed to the United States.

The 35-year-old started his professional career with the Red Devils and went on to represent them at senior level 198 times before leaving for West Bromwich Albion in 2015.

Ten Hag recently refused to rule out a longer-term deal for the Northern Ireland international, who won the Champions League, three Premier League titles, two League Cups and the Club World Cup during his time at Man United.

Hugill, meanwhile, arrived at Old Trafford from Sunderland in 2020, and he finished last season on loan at National League outfit Altrincham.

The 19-year-old was on the scoresheet in Man United's first friendly of the summer against Leeds United in Oslo and also made a positive impression against Wrexham.

The Red Devils were also in action against Real Madrid on Wednesday, with Carlo Ancelotti's side running out 2-0 winners in Houston, Texas.

Jude Bellingham and Joselu were on the scoresheet for Los Blancos in a match that saw Andre Onana make his debut between the sticks for Man United.

A strong side also included Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford, while Antony and Jadon Sancho were among those to come off the bench. body check tags ::
