Real Madrid are reportedly 'paying close attention' to Lisandro Martinez's situation at Manchester United, with Los Blancos considering making a move for the centre-back during next summer's transfer window.

Martinez moved to Man United from Ajax in 2022, and he has represented the 20-time English champions on 78 occasions in all competitions, including 19 outings in all competitions during the 2024-25 campaign.

The 26-year-old has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2027, with the option of a further 12 months, and he is believed to be in the plans of new Red Devils head coach Ruben Amorim moving forward.

However, according to TBR Football, Real Madrid are keeping a close eye on Martinez's situation, with the European and Spanish champions weighing up an approach next summer.

The report claims that Los Blancos are determined to sign a new centre-back next year and believe that Martinez's profile would suit their side considering his ball-playing abilities.

Real Madrid 'interested in Man United centre-back Martinez'

Martinez has played in two of Man United's four Premier League matches since Amorim's arrival, missing out against Ipswich Town and Arsenal due to injury and suspension.

The Argentina international was a part of a defence that conceded three times against Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, as Man United suffered a 3-2 home defeat in the Premier League.

Amorim, as expected, has implemented a three-man defence since his arrival as head coach, with Martinez featuring on the left of the back three, and he is the first choice in that area of the field.

Man United are set to move for another centre-back next year, with Everton's Jarrad Branthwaite thought to still be a target, and he would be viewed as a possible replacement for Martinez if the South American did move on.

Should Man United listen to offers for Martinez?

Martinez was exceptional during his first season at Old Trafford, but he struggled with injury problems last term, making only 14 appearances in all competitions.

The Argentine has struggled to show his best form this season, meanwhile, and there remain concerns surrounding his lack of height, which was exposed by Forest in Saturday's Premier League clash.

Amorim is creating his own side, and if a substantial offer were to arrive from Real Madrid, then Man United should listen, with Leny Yoro arguably the only defender who is certain of a long-term future at Old Trafford. body check tags ::
