Ezekiel Fryers has claimed that Manchester United priced him out of a move to Tottenham Hotspur during the summer.
The 20-year-old was out of contract at Old Trafford at the end of last season, but because he was under the age of 24, United would have been due compensation for his services.
Having seen the move to Spurs fall through, the left-back eventually opted to join Belgian club Standard Liege on a free transfer.
"United offered a three-year contract but I rejected the offer," Fryers told FourFourTwo. "Spurs were interested but the fee [that United requested] was too much.
"Then Standard Liege arrived with a good opportunity for me to play regular games and get experience."
Fryers made six senior appearances for United last season.
