Getafe have reportedly told Manchester United that they are willing to pay £40m for Mason Greenwood during next summer's transfer window.

The 22-year-old's future is currently the subject of much speculation, with both Barcelona and Real Madrid said to be interested in signing him from Man United in the summer of 2024.

Having been told that he would not represent the Red Devils again, Greenwood moved on loan to Getafe on September 1, and he has been in strong form for the La Liga outfit, contributing five goals and four assists in 15 appearances in all competitions.

As it stands, Greenwood will head back to Man United next summer, and he has another 18 months left to run on his contract with the 20-time English champions.

Recent reports have suggested that there could be a route for him back into the first team at Old Trafford, but it is still thought to be highly unlikely that he will play for the club again.

According to The Sun, Getafe have told Man United that they are willing to pay £40m for Greenwood during next summer's transfer window, but the capital outfit face huge competition for his signature.

As well as Barcelona and Real Madrid, Valencia and Real Sociedad are said to be keen on a player who has impressed in Spain's top flight since his arrival, contributing three goals and four assists in 14 outings.

Greenwood had been regarded as one of the best young talents in world football, and he scored 35 goals and registered 12 assists in 129 appearances for his parent club before being arrested in January 2022 following accusations from a woman.

The Red Devils academy product was initially arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, and he was then further arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and threats to kill.

Greenwood was also facing charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm, but there is no longer a case against him.

Man United are thought to have made the decision to bring him back into the first team for the 2023-24 campaign before changing their minds due to the public backlash.

Greenwood and his family are said to have settled well in Spain, and he is believed to be open to making a permanent move to a La Liga club in 2024.

However, there was also talk of interest from Italy last year, and AC Milan are thought to be one of the Serie A clubs keeping a close eye on his situation.

Greenwood has returned to Manchester for the Christmas period, with Getafe not due back in action until January 2 at home to Rayo Vallecano. body check tags ::
