Inter Milan sporting director Piero Ausilio reportedly travelled to England earlier this week to speak with Manchester United about a potential summer deal for goalkeeper Andre Onana.

David de Gea's contract with the Red Devils is due to expire at the end of this week, and it is believed that the Spaniard will leave the club, having failed to agree a new deal.

Onana appears to have emerged as Man United's number one target to replace De Gea, should the long-serving stopper move on this summer.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Ausilio, who is in charge of Inter's transfer activity, was in England on Monday to meet with Man United for Onana talks.

The report claims that the Italian giants are prepared to sell the Cameroonian this summer to fund their transfer activity, but the two clubs are some away apart when it comes to a fee.

A compromise of £43m could reportedly be reached, with Onana keen on a reunion with Erik ten Hag, having played under the now Man United head coach at Ajax.

The former Cameroon international made the move to Inter from Ajax in 2022, and he was in strong form for the Milan giants during the 2022-23 campaign, keeping 19 clean sheets in 41 appearances.

Onana starred during his team's run to the final of the Champions League, producing eight shut-outs in 13 appearances in the competition, with Inter taking on Manchester City in Istanbul for the silverware.

The stopper could not prevent Man City from running out 1-0 winners on the night, but his performance led to fresh speculation surrounding his future.

Onana won three Eredivisie titles and two KNVB Cups during his time at Ajax, while he lifted two trophies at Inter last season - the Coppa Italia and the Italian Super Cup.

Inter will be in the Champions League next season, having finished third in the 2022-23 Serie A table, but their financial issues could lead to some high-profile sales this summer.

Tom Heaton has signed a one-year contract extension at Man United to keep him at the club, but the experienced stopper is not considered to be a number one.

Dean Henderson is also set to return to the club following a loan spell at Nottingham Forest, but he is thought to be in talks over a permanent move to Steve Cooper's side.

As a result, there will be a goalkeeper arrival if De Gea leaves, and the Spaniard hinted at frustration with his current situation with a tweet that he posted on Wednesday afternoon. body check tags ::
