Jose Mourinho has reportedly targeted Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane as his final piece of transfer business at Manchester United this summer.
The Red Devils have already spent big to sign four new faces during the off-season, bringing in Eric Bailly, Paul Pogba, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and free agent Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Despite splashing out more than £150m to strengthen his squad, Spanish publication AS reports that Mourinho is still hopeful of landing another top-class central-defensive option.
Varane, who was brought to Madrid from Lens by the Portuguese in 2011, is said to be the ideal option although he will likely set United back a further £33m if a deal can be struck with Los Blancos.
The same report claims that Juventus ace Leonardo Bonucci is another potential target should a move for Varane break down, but the experienced Italian defender is thought to have already rejected a move to Manchester City this summer and would be reluctant to leave Turin.
United begin their Premier League season on Sunday afternoon with a trip to the south coast to face Bournemouth at Dean Court.
