Liverpool have reportedly made contact with Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot over a potential summer move.
Rabiot appeared to be on the verge of completing a Premier League move in 2022 when he was wanted by Liverpool's Premier League rivals Manchester United.
The Red Devils had reached an agreement with Juventus, but the transfer collapsed due to a disagreement over personal terms.
Two years on, Rabiot's future is again the subject of much speculation, with his contract set to expire at the end of the month.
The Frenchman is believed to be waiting for Man United to make an approach, but it remains to be seen whether the Red Devils will consider renewing their interest.
Liverpool make contact over Rabiot move
However, it appears that one Premier League heavyweight is firmly in the race to secure Rabiot's signature this summer.
According to Sportitalia, Liverpool are one of several clubs to have registered their interest in making Rabiot the first signing of the Arne Slot era.
However, the report suggests that they could face competition from European champions Real Madrid as well as several unnamed Premier League sides.
There is also the possibility that Rabiot could still agree a new contract to extend his five-year stay at Juventus.
The Italian club's new manager Thiago Motta wants to keep Rabiot, but they may find it difficult to agree a new deal before his current one expires.
Liverpool searching for midfield reinforcements
On the face of it, Liverpool may not need to sign a new midfielder after signing Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch last summer.
However, the Reds will lose at least one midfielder, with Thiago Alcantara set to leave upon the expiry of his contract.
At the age of 29, Rabiot is still at his peak and he may be an appealing option due to the relatively cheap cost of the move and his wealth of European experience.
After competing in the Europa League last term, Liverpool are set to return to the Champions League - a competition where Rabiot has made 60 appearances during his time at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.
Rabiot is currently representing his country at Euro 2024 and has started both of France's first two group games against Austria and Netherlands.
The Juventus midfielder is likely to be in action again when France face Poland in their final group game on Tuesday. body check tags ::
