Liverpool 'not planning Kylian Mbappe approach'

Liverpool reportedly have no plans to reignite their interest in Paris Saint-Germain's Kylian Mbappe amid the latest developments surrounding his future.

Only one year after appearing to end speculation over his next career move by signing a new deal with PSG, the 24-year-old is at the centre of another transfer saga.

Mbappe rejected the chance to join Real Madrid last year as he signed a new two-year contract with PSG, and those terms include an option to extend until 2025.

However, the former Monaco starlet has informed the French champions that he will not be triggering that 12-month option, meaning that he could leave as a free agent next summer.

Having supposedly been left infuriated upon receiving Mbappe's correspondence, PSG will try to offload the striker for a fee this summer rather than risk losing him for nothing at the end of next season.

Mbappe, though, has announced that he has no desire to leave the Ligue 1 holders this summer, in spite of the fact that he is not willing to commit his future to the club beyond 2024.

Real Madrid and Manchester United have been put on red alert, and back in 2022, Liverpool were also named as contenders to sign Mbappe before his PSG renewal.

However, The Telegraph claims that Liverpool are not getting involved in the saga and are not considering a move for the French World Cup winner at this moment in time.

With PSG still expected to hold out for at least £100m this summer, the report adds that Chelsea, Manchester City and Newcastle United have also distanced themselves from the situation.

Real Madrid is still considered to be Mbappe's most likely destination, as Carlo Ancelotti's side are on the lookout for a new big-name striker following Karim Benzema's shock move to Saudi champions Al-Ittihad.

Los Blancos could alternatively wait and try to sign Mbappe on a free transfer in 2024, but Man United are set to emerge as serious contenders if Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani completes a full takeover this summer.

Mbappe has a club-high 212 goals and 98 assists from 260 games for PSG since initially joining on loan from Monaco in 2017, one year before Les Parisiens paid €180m (£153.9m) to sign him permanently.

PSG also rejected a bid believed to be worth £137m from Real Madrid in 2021 for Mbappe, who won his fifth Ligue 1 Golden Boot last year with 29 strikes in 34 top-flight games.

Despite losing Roberto Firmino on a free transfer, Liverpool are otherwise well-stocked in the final third and are prioritising midfield additions ahead of the 2023-24 campaign.

The Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton & Hove Albion in a £35m deal, but Jurgen Klopp is thought to want another two midfielders before the window shuts.
